Is it possible that I will swallow my tongue or lip ring or stud?

Swallowing the jewellery is a major concern with oral piercings as parts of the stud can very easily come detached and it is most likely that you will swallow them; especially when you are sleeping. Most of the time swallowing a piece of the stud or ring will not harm you in any way; but, at the same time, there is a risk that you will choke on the piece of metal or will react badly to the metal.

To avoid swallowing anything you should be sure to check your stud or ring regularly to make sure it is secure, particularly before going to bed. However you should never leave your stud or ring out overnight to avoid this issue as a piercing can close up within this time and you may not be able to get the jewellery back through the hole the next morning.
